Geelong Cats forward Gryan Miers will remain in the Hoops until the end of 2028 after signing a two-year contract extension.
Already contracted until the end of 2026, Miers has signed on early, with the crafty player extending a year before becoming a free agent.
The 26-year-old, who has played 138 games and kicked 102 goals for the Cats, has become an integral piece of Geelong’s team, and is renowned for his goal assists, leading the league in the stat in 2023 with a record 41 goal assists, while also recording 26 in 2024 to finish top five.
Known for his hard running, Miers was recruited out of the Geelong Falcons Under 18s program with Pick 57 in the 2017 AFL National Draft, playing a key role in Geelong’s 2022 Premiership campaign, despite a delayed start to that year with injury.
Miers had played every game since securing his place in Geelong’s best 22 in 2022, with a 76 consecutive games streak ending after sustaining a concussion against the Hawks. The lengthy streak followed on from a 50-game streak that ran from his debut in Round 1, 2019 until an injury in Round 7, 2021.
Miers returned to the team lineup in the game against GWS on Sunday in front of a crowd of 28,407 on Mother’s Day, collecting 23 disposals and kicking a goal.
Geelong Cats Executive General Manager of Football Andrew Mackie said the Club was pleased to extend Miers’ tenure at Geelong.
“Gryan is an integral part of our playing group who brings clear attributes on the field and continues to develop strong leadership away from it,” Mackie said.
“He is a valuable part of our list and it’s great news for those involved with our Club to have him in the Hoops until at least the end of 2028.”
