GEELONG’S improved midfield depth, thanks to the arrival of Patrick Dangerfield and Scott Selwood, means Cameron Guthrie is likely to spent more time in the backline in 2016.
“I’ve spent a lot of time in the midfield over the last couple of years, but we’ve recruited a few midfielders into the team,” the 23-year-old told geelongcats.com.au during an interview that forms part of CatsTV's pre-season series.
“I’ve been spending a bit more time in defence in the pre-season, so I’ll probably juggle that throughout the year - midfield and playing as a defender.”
Guthrie began his career in the backline.
Now his sure ball handling and precise disposal are set to make him an attacking weapon in defence, and his role could turn out to be like the one James Kelly filled in his last season with the Cats.
“‘Kel’ played that really well, so it might be similar,” Guthrie said.
“I have spent time in the midfield and defence before.”
