PORT Adelaide and Geelong players could be lighter in their wallets this week after one of the bigger melees in recent seasons broke out at quarter-time during their clash at Adelaide Oval on Saturday night.
A scuffle broke out after Power defender Tom Jonas crashed the pack during a marking contest on the siren and collected Patrick Dangerfield with an accidental knee in the back.
It quickly escalated into a melee with most players on the ground becoming involved and wrestling matches almost spilling over the fence.
Just as things were breaking up Port’s Jasper Pittard, a Geelong Falcons junior, bumped Tom Ruggles to the ground.
Several Cats players sprinted in to fly the flag and piled on top of Pittard before things finally broke up.
The Power crowd lapped up the action and under-pressure coach Ken Hinkley didn’t appear to mind it either. He gave Jonas a high five as the defender entered the huddle.
