Battled a toe injury for the opening six weeks of the 2023 season but still proved his importance, averaging over 22 disposals and five tackles per game. Guthrie’s season at AFL level came to an abrupt end after the round six win over Sydney, opting for surgery before returning for one game in the VFL in their final match of the year. As a two-time Carji Greeves Medallist, Guthrie’s importance to the Geelong midfield was truly recognised during his absence, and he will be a big addition back into the lineup in 2024.
