Chris Scott spoke to Cats TV about the young players stepping up against the Hawks and the club’s celebration for Joel Selwood’s 150th game on this week’s episode of Tweet the Coach.

Immediately after Saturday night’s victory over the Hawks Chris Scott felt it was important to congratulate the younger players for their gallant effort.

Following such a skillful show he believed the players needed to know the performance they delivered was exactly what is required in order for the club to move forward.

“I thought it was really important that post game I highlighted a few things as quickly as possible post game,” Scott said.

“I grabbed only the inexperienced players and left the older guys to their own devices and just reinforced a few specifics of the game, but to also acknowledge the fact that when the heat was really on it was our young players, Josh Caddy, Jesse Stringer and Jordan Murdoch that stood up, and we’re not going to have those experienced players forever and it’s important that our younger guys step up as quickly as possible.”

In the lead up to Joel Selwood’s 150th game this Saturday Scott feels it’s really important that the club shows its appreciation and celebrates the 25-year olds’ milestone.

“We certainly play a highlights reel… and that highlight reel is going to be pretty comprehensive I would have thought,” Scott said.

“That gives the players a little bit of a lift and it’s a small acknowledgement of the milestone.”

Although he knows Slewood views it as a small and insignificant achievement, however, Scott strongly believes the club needs to applaud him for his impressive feat.

“I think Joel will regard it as a relatively minor one but internally we feel it’s important to acknowledge and honor those who have put in a lot of work and contributed to the success of the club in the past,” Scott explained.

“While I say it’s relatively insignificant for Joel, it’s more significant for the club at large.”
