Geelong CEO Brian Cook believes the Cats have received a good fixture for the 2014 season.

A major highlight will be the first Friday night game at Simonds Stadium, when the Cats host North Melbourne in round 10. In recent seasons the Cats have seen multiple major events, including the opening of the Hickey, Premiership and Players stands, the introduction of the lights and a final at Simonds Stadium.

Other highlights of the draw include:

Seven home games at Simonds Stadium
Two home games at both the MCG and Etihad Stadium
Home games against both grand finalists in Hawthorn and Fremantle
A home clash with Adelaide in round one on a Thursday night in what is scheduled to be Jimmy Bartel’s 250th game
The Cats will play Hawthorn, Carlton, North Melbourne, Brisbane, and Fremantle twice
Fourteen games on Channel 7, seven on Fox Sports and one TBD
Interstate trips to Perth, Sydney (twice), Brisbane, Gold Coast and Adelaide ensuring Geelong supporters throughout most of Australia will see the Cats in action

“Overall we are pleased with the fixture, and I think that our members and supporters will be happy with it too,” Cook said.

“We have a good mix with our home games, have been treated fairly with interstate games and also a good balance of playing Victorian and interstate teams at Simonds Stadium.

“As always, we have a number of blockbuster games, and with 16 games in Victoria our supporters have many great opportunities to see us in action.

“Ideally we wanted an eighth home game at Simonds Stadium, but with the AFL’s commitment to Etihad Stadium reducing significantly after next season, we have full confidence that extra games will be scheduled at our home in 2015.

“Our club is committed to challenge for the premiership, and everyone at the club is confident we are well placed to again be contending. It’s an exciting time to be a Cats supporter and member.

“The fixture is not an easy proposition for the AFL, with so many requests from the clubs. What we are looking for is a fairness and balance, and I think they have achieved that.”
