Young gun Steven Motlop has jetted out to meet with a specialist in London to assess his knee tendonitis problem.

Motlop has been nursing the problem through the pre-season but a modified program was not getting the results wanted.

Geelong Cats head of sport science and medicine,  Peter Stanton, said the Cats were hopeful the trip would assist Motlop with his issue.

“We are sending Steven to who we believe is the world’s best knee tendon doctor in London.” Stanton said.

“We had hoped that by managing Steven’s workload he could overcome the problem but it isn’t progressing as we would have liked.”

“Steven will commence a program once he returns from London with the intention to increase his workload in the lead up to the season."

Cats skipper Joel Selwood underwent surgery on a foot problem earlier this week.

Geelong takes on Collingwood in the opening NAB Challenge encounter on February 12 and will play Adelaide in round one of the home and away season on March 20.
