They might get missed due to the occasion but Geelong will mark three significant milestones at this Friday night’s Preliminary Final against Brisbane at the MCG.
Defender Jed Bews will celebrate his 150th game for the club after being taken as a father/son selection back in 2011, Chris Scott will notch up his 500th AFL game as a player and a coach, and Joel Selwood will equal Michael Tuck’s record for the most finals played.
Both Scott and Bews were acknowledged on this week's To The Final Bell podcast, but special praise was reserved for captain Selwood who will play in his 39th career final, drawing level with Hawthorn legend, Tuck.
Co-hosts Tom Lonergan and Scott Gullan were taken aback by the scale of the achievement.
“That is incredible, isn't it,” Lonergan said.
“When you look at players like Matty Richardson, how many finals, one or two?
“Didn't Robert Flower play one or none? There are people like that that have had extraordinary careers”.
Geelong premiership captain Cameron Ling was equally as impressed.
“It is just another astonishing record for a great person, a great leader, and an outstanding footballer.”
