JACK Bowes is looking forward to a big 2023 after joining Geelong via the recent 2022 Trade period.
After playing 83 senior games for the Gold Coast Suns, Bowes was traded to the Cats along with pick seven in exchange for a future third round selection.
Bowes has spent most of those games rotating between defensive and midfield roles, but it is the midfield where the 187cm Cat looks likely to ply his trade in 2023.
“I sat down with Chris (Scott), Patty (Dangerfield) and all the coaches that were there and they were really excited to have a role for me there, “Bowes said speaking on Sportsday.
“I think they are really keen to play me in the midfield and I am really looking forward to that.”
Bowes had long been linked with a move to Geelong. Patrick Dangerfield, who shares the same management as Bowes had had been an admirer from afar and along with List Manager Andrew Mackie had identified the 24-year-old as a player that could strengthen the Cats list in the future.
"It was a really tough process. It was about what felt right for me; I went with my gut a bit in terms of I knew Geelong had been talking to my management since halfway through the year. I knew they wanted me for who I am and what I bring as a footballer. It was obviously a bit unique with pick No.7 being involved. I had to work through who was in it for that, as opposed to who was actually in it for me,” Bowes told afl.com.au.
Bowes had a ‘great feeling’ from the moment he entered GMHBA Stadium and he is looking forward to starting pre-season and learning from his new teammates.
“It has been such a successful environment and I was blown away by their culture and facilities, and the people I got to meet throughout the process.”
“I am really excited to learn off a lot of the great players at the Club. They will be coming off a premiership, so I will get in there with a hungry mindset and look to add to that in whatever way I can to the team and looking forward to a big 2023.”
