Geelong holds the top pick heading into what will be a different-look draft for AFL Women's Season 8 on Tuesday.

Read below to find out more about the 2023 AFLW Season 8 Supplementary Draft.

The 2023 Draft

Tuesday's draft will be called the 2023 AFLW Season 8 Supplementary Draft. It differs from previous seasons' drafts in that there will be no under-18 talent available for selection.

After two seasons in one calendar year in 2022, the draft will be realigning to follow on from the under 18's top-age year, meaning draftees won't have to juggle AFLW commitments with the end of Year 12, as several players across the league did in Season 7.

That means prospective draftees this year have to be 19 or older, with many coming through state league competitions like the VFLW with a hope of stepping up to the elite level.

For the first time, prospective draftees will be able to nominate either for the home-state draft pool, or a national draft pool, meaning they can be selected by any of the 18 clubs across Australia.

How to Watch

The Season 8 Supplementary Draft will be held on Tuesday 4 April, and will be streamed exclusively on womens.aflafl.com.au, the AFLW App and the AFL Live Official App from 7.30pm AEST that night.

You can also follow Cats Women's on Instagram, Twitter and Facebook for updates, and get all the news on the Geelong Cats Official App and website.

The Cats' Hand

Geelong has just one spot remaining on its list for AFLW Season 8, meaning the Club will only be taking one pick into the draft.

Excitingly for the Cats, it will be the very first pick in the draft, after they received the pick from Sydney in a trade for Laura Gardiner.

The first selection offers up a range of possibilities for the Cats as they look to find the final piece to complement and complete their Season 8 list.
