Geelong midfielder Brandan Parfitt is expected to miss one-to-two weeks after breaking his hand in the Cats’ VFL match against North Melbourne on Sunday.
Geelong Cats General Manager of Football Simon Lloyd said Parfitt was undergoing surgery on the hand on Tuesday.
“Unfortunately, Brandan Parfitt injured his hand in a tackling incident in the VFL game on the weekend. Brandan is having surgery this morning, and it should be a one-to-two week injury,” Lloyd said.
“He’s fairly positive, and it’s a slight interruption, but hopefully he’ll be back in no time.”
The news is looking positive for a trio of Cats hoping to return for Saturday’s clash with Essendon at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday night.
Jeremy Cameron, Jake Kolodjashnij and Isaac Smith are all expected to be available for selection.
“Jezza’s tracking really well. Obviously, as Chris Scott has mentioned, we’ll be guided by our medical team (on) when he’ll be available, but he’s had a couple of big training sessions now, and he’s looking good,” Lloyd said.
“Jake Kolodjashnij came out with an adductor injury, a hip injury … Isaac Smith was managed. So we expect Isaac Smith, Jake Kolodjashnij and Jeremy Cameron – all three – to be available for selection this week against the Bombers, which will be a great game.”
Jed Bews is expected to miss again this week as he works through a knee injury that ruled him out of last Sunday’s match against North Melbourne.
“Jed Bews (as) we’ve spoken about came out with a knee injury, so he’ll be one-to-two weeks,” Lloyd said.
“We’re just really making sure that we get that right, and he’s doing a lot of running at the moment.”
Cam Guthrie and Jhye Clarke are both progressing well in their return from foot injuries, with both now out of their moon boots.
“Jhye Clarke and Cam Guthrie are returning from foot injuries, and both are now doing a lot of weight-bearing work and going through their reconditioning program, so they’re tracking really well, which is positive,” Lloyd said.
