Geelong has appointed Peter Stanton to the role of Head of Sport Science & Sport Medicine.

He will oversee the club’s medical, rehabilitation and sports science units. ? ?Peter has significant experience, most recently with Brisbane sports & spinal physiotherapy, working as a consultant physiotherapist to the QAS high performance jumps squad.?  ?

“Peter has a great track record in elite sport,” Geelong’s general manager of football Neil Balme said.? ?

“He has worked in a wide variety of sports, including AFL, and will bring leadership, expertise and experience to the role. We are looking forward to Peter bringing new ideas to the role.”? 

Peter spent 10 years working at the Australian Institute of Sport in Canberra, and among other things has provided sports physiotherapy services with Australian teams at three Olympic Games, three world athletics championships, two Commonwealth Games, two world triathlon championships, and two world university games along with touring internationally with athletics, triathlon, cycling, basketball, and netball.??

He has experience within an AFL environment, serving as the Brisbane Lions sports medicine and physical performance co-ordinator from 1999 to 2006, and has also worked nationally with the National Basketball League, and coordinated the physiotherapy services for both Athletics Australia and Triathlon Australia.??

Peter has also lectured both nationally and internationally on many aspects of injury analysis and treatment.
