FIVE THINGS TO LOOK OUT FOR THIS WEEKEND:
1. BILLIE SMEDTS BACK IN THE AFL
After missing a large chunk of the season due to a broken collarbone, Billie Smedts has been a man possessed since returning to the field last month. He was among the Cats' best players in the last-gasp VFL win over Werribee two weeks ago and was then best on ground in last weekend's loss to Footscray. Smedts has been playing in the midfield and has relished the opportunity to win plenty of the ball. His performances have seen him elevated for yet another chance in the AFL team. We hope he grasps the chance with both hands.

2. GEELONG TO START WELL
As AFL Media guru Ben Guthrie wrote this week, the Cats are +57 points in the first 10 minutes of games this season. Now is the time to turn those good starts into four-quarter performances.

3. COREY ENRIGHT'S DOUBLE CENTURY
The man we know as 'Boris' has already celebrated one major milestone this season, although his 300th game against Melbourne back in round 12 proved to be one he'd probably rather forget. But Enright is now on the verge of achieving another milestone. The Cats' win over the Western Bulldogs last weekend was his 199th career victory. So Enright will bring up his 200 if Geelong can get over Greater Western Sydney on Saturday.

4. THE CATS TO KEEP THEIR FINALS HOPES ALIVE
The most matches that Geelong has played between finals appearances is 176, which was between round one, 1982 and round 22, 1989. The club's second-longest streak between finals was 158 games between round one, 1904 and round 18, 1912.

5. VARDY, COWAN AND MENZEL IN THE VFL
After spending a combined 10 years or so in the rehab group, Nathan Vardy, Josh Cowan and Daniel Menzel will line up alongside each other in Saturday's VFL clash with Essendon at Simonds Stadium. It will be the first time the 2009 draftees have been in the same team since 2011. Menzel's form in the past two weeks has given everyone at the club a boost. If Vardy and Cowan can get through unscathed the Cats' list will suddenly be looking very healthy.
