It is easy to forget that he has only been with the Cats for two years, but Jack Bowes is looking more comfortable every week as a key part of the Geelong midfield in 2024.
Joining the Cats via trade at the end of 2022, the 26 year old went through a transition moving down from the Gold Coast ahead of his first season with Geelong.
Bowes has become a staple through the middle, collecting 20 or more disposals on eight different occasions this year while sitting in the top five at the club for clearances, inside 50’s and contested possessions.
Speaking with 3AW, Bowes said he is enjoying a slightly different role this year as he continues to get more familiar with the club and his teammates.
“I have enjoyed a little bit more of a midfield role this year,” Bowes told 3AW.
“I feel a lot more comfortable within the team and I am getting to understand my new teammates.
“I was able to build off last year going into this season which has helped.
“I am just really enjoying my time at the moment and winning helps, enjoying my footy helps as well.”
Bowes has proven to be an asset in the forward half too, booting eight majors for the year and multiple goals against the Western Bulldogs and Sydney.
Averaging career highs in tackles, clearances and inside 50’s, the 26 year old has formed a solid partnership with the Cats on-ball division, helping to set the team up on the run home to finals.
Bowes believes that the strong individuals around the club have built a great culture, which makes life easier for players to settle into the system.
“The club is just full of really good people,” Bowes told 3AW.
“They give you a lot of autonomy, you are in a position where if you want to get the most of yourself you can.
“They give you a little bit of leeway with time away from the club, but when we are there we train hard.
“I felt so welcome as soon as I walked in the door.”
