There was an 11 month gap between AFL games for Jed Bews, but he took no time re-establishing himself in the Cats line-up against North Melbourne.

Bews collected 13 disposals and seven marks in his return, while also picking up five intercept possessions and five rebound 50’s in a solid display.

Having not featured at the top level since the final round of the 2023 season, Bews said it was exciting to be back in the team.

“It is great to be back, very exciting,” Bews said.

“I spent a long time playing in the VFL, improving my game to prove that I deserve a spot and it is good to be back in.”

Bews has spent much of the season at VFL level, earning a recall to the AFL side on the back of some solid form over the past month.

The 30 year old averaged 21 disposals per game across his last five VFL matches, including a dominant 26 possession outing against Footscray before earning his way back into the AFL team.

Geelong’s backline was rock solid against the Kangaroos, including a big performance from Tom Stewart who collected a game high 13 intercept possessions.

Bews noted how important Stewart is to the Cats setup, following the big win over North Melbourne on Saturday.

“I love playing with Stewy,” Bews said.

“I know he does it each week, but I think people don't realise just how special a player he is.

“We are lucky enough to get to play with him which is awesome.”

Bews also touched on Tyson Stengle’s performance, which included three more incredible goals to add to his growing highlight reel.

“He is unbelievable with some of those goals he kicked,” Bews said.

“There was one he kicked from the boundary, watching it go through was unbelievable, he puts the ball on his boot and it just goes through.

“It is pretty special.”

The Cats return home this week for a clash with Adelaide at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday. Tickets are available now through Ticketmaster for fans wanting to attend.
