Kate Kenny

Exciting Irish recruit Kate Kenny is set to make her AFLW debut on Saturday night, when the Cats kick off their 2024 season against Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium.

Geelong coach Dan Lowther announced the news to Kenny and the playing group on Tuesday night, confirming that she will line-up against the Demons in Week 1.

In the Cats’ two warm-up matches, Kenny made an instant impression with her athleticism and speed, while also showing her forward prowess with a big mark and goal against Essendon.

The Week 1 debut caps an incredible rise by Geelong’s new recruit, who only signed with the Club in March this year and arrived in Australia just under three months ago.

Kenny was a highly-touted dual-sport athlete in Ireland, excelling at both Gaelic football and camogie (hurling) before turning her interest to Australian Rules football.

With a number of exciting attributes, Kenny landed on Geelong’s radar and joins fellow Irish-born players Aishling Moloney, Rachel Kearns and Anna-Rose Kennedy on the Cats’ list for 2024.
