Cameron Ling and Meg McDonald recapped the Cats big Qualifying Final win over Port Adelaide, on this week’s episode of Geelong Football Club podcast ‘To the Final Bell.’

Looking Back at a Big Qualifying Final Win

(Timestamp: 0:36 – 13:08)

Cameron Ling: “It was a true team performance, I went through and was thinking who do you pump up?

Well you could pump them all up, everyone had moments when the game was on the line.

A couple of times when Port Adelaide were surging, trying to get forward with momentum and if they broke through they would have had a number forward of the contest, but we stuck a tackle or Zach Guthrie came the other way and cut it off.

It turned what could have been a really dangerous play for Port Adelaide into either a stoppage, or it came flying back the other way to our forward line which was functioning so beautifully together.”

Meg McDonald: “I love the maturity and the game sense of the guys to settle the ship, make Port defend a little bit and then go down and kick another goal.”

Recapping AFLW Week 2

(Timestamp: 15:29 – 21:15)

Meg McDonald: “There were elements to it that felt like a win walking away with two points. What we were out there to try and achieve was to take steps towards playing our best football.

When we came up against the Kangaroos in the past we reverted to slow ball movement, kicking down the line and playing not to lose.

So to go down in the first half, I loved the way we responded.

But if you look at the game in isolation, it probably trends towards a loss in that we dominated across the ground and didn't maximise our opportunities in front of goal.

There are little wins along the way, but I don't think you will find any of us are satisfied with a near enough result. We want to be in a position to win those games.”

Reviewing the VFL Semi Final

(Timestamp: 21:17 – 25:03)

Cameron Ling: “Obviously a lot of attention was on this game given the players who playing in, some vying for AFL selection.

Can I give a big shoutout again to Mitch Knevitt, who I thought was brilliant. 39 disposals in the game, did everything he possibly could.

The other two players who had a lot of attention on them, Tom Hawkins and Cameron Guthrie on return from respective injuries.

Both got through fine and took another step towards putting their hand up for selection.”

Diving into some Fan Questions

(Timestamp: 25:48 – 32:15)

Cameron Ling: “My favourite moment from Thursday night, it is hard to go past Jez Cameron's goal.

But my favourite moment was the Max Holmes run, pulling away from Zak Butters and setting up a goal. Purely because I was completely jealous.”

Meg McDonald: “I loved the Tanner Bruhn set shot goal.

On a day where our set shot kicking was not fantastic, from a player who has had an interrupted season, who is perhaps a little undervalued but is rising.

The slotting of that goal in the premiership quarter and the passion of the celebration, I was living for it.”
