In the build up to the Cats blockbuster clash with Brisbane on Saturday afternoon, we take a look back at some iconic Preliminary Final moments in Geelong Football Club history.

The third moment in this series takes us back to 1994, another iconic Finals play from an Ablett but this time it was the great Gary Senior.

Ablett Sr. had been simply incredible in the 1994 AFL season, booting 125 goals up to the Preliminary Final while taking out the Coleman Medal.

The Prelim served up an enticing matchup with Ablett at one end and Wayne Carey at the other, with the Cats set to square off against North Melbourne for a spot in the Grand Final.

Geelong started slowly and trailed the Kangaroos at the quarter time break, but sprung into action in the second term with a seven goal quarter to take an 24-point lead at half time.

The Cats continued to control the contest maintaining an 18-point lead at the final break, despite Gary Ablett being well held by Mick Martyn for much of the day.

But North Melbourne had one last challenge in them, booting three unanswered goals in the final quarter to snatch the lead back with just over five minutes on the clock.

Andrew Willis had a chance to put Geelong back in front, but could only register a minor score to leave scores level with three minutes remaining.

Neither team could break the deadlock, but the ball was inside Geelong's forward 50 and ultimately landed in hands of Leigh Colbert in the final sequence of the game.

His kick perfectly hit John Barnes who could not hold the mark, Leigh Tudor collected the crumb and his quick kick found the outstretched hand of Gary Ablett Senior.

'The Hand of God' mark became one of the most iconic moments in V/AFL Finals history, as Ablett went back and kicked the goal to send Geelong into a Grand Final.
