He is only 25 years old and has plenty of football still ahead of him, but Gryan Miers is now considered one of the more experienced players on Geelong's AFL list.
With 131 games under his belt and heading into a seventh season at the top level, Miers has established himself as one of the competition's most dangerous small forwards, with the ability to have an impact further up the ground.
After setting the record for the most goal assists in a regular season in 2023, Miers backed it up with an impressive 2024 campaign averaging over 20 disposals per game and kicking 21 goals for the year.
Despite a sensational run of form over the past few years, Miers is still looking for ways to improve as he prepares for an exciting 2025 season.
"There are so many different ways to improve," Miers said.
"I want to be the best runner in the league, I want to be the best kick in the league, I want to be the tallest player in the league..... probably won't get there, but all there are all those things that I can try to improve on.
"Those are things I will be trying to do, I may not necessarily achieve them all but if I can get one percent better at all these things, or steal something from another player that I can do it will make me that little bit better.
"I might look like a different player to last year, but I want to improve my overall importance to the team and that is all that matters."
Entering the 2025 season, Geelong has 21 players on the AFL list with less than 50 games experience, making it one of the younger lists in recent history for the club.
With new faces coming in through the trade period, free agency and the draft this year, the leadership of established players like Miers will become invaluable as the Cats look to compete at the pointy end of the competition once more.
Miers said he has been able to lean on the experience of players like Patrick Dangerfield and Tom Stewart, helping him to develop his own leadership skills.
"We have got such a good, young group that makes my job easier as a leader and an older player," Miers said.
"I have been prepared well by the older lads, I am ready to take on that role.
"Not saying that I need to be a complete leader, but I will help out where I see fit.
"Pat [Dangerfield] and Stew [Tom Stewart] have such different leadership abilities, we have got Blitz [Mark Blicavs] there as well which means I can come in and do my little part for the team."
