Geelong Premiership forward Brad Close has signed a three-year contract extension, committing to the Club until at least the end of the 2028.

Recruited as a mature-aged selection from North Gambier / Glenelg in 2019, Close played an instrumental role in Geelong’s 2022 Premiership, kicking two goals from 18 disposals on Grand Final day.

A durable and consistent player, Close has played all but two games since Round 4 2021, and celebrated his 100th AFL game in last year’s Qualifying Final win over Port Adelaide.

An integral piece in Geelong’s forward half, Close is not just renowned for his dedication to wearing the long sleeves on match day but also for his goal sense, forward pressure and ability to bring teammates into the action.

The 26-year-old has kicked 89 career goals, to go with 83 goal assists.

“I am really excited to sign on, I have loved my time at Geelong so far and I am looking forward to the years ahead and what we can achieve,” Close said.

“I still pinch myself every day that I landed at the Cats. The goal was to play one game, but to now tick over 100 games last year with hopefully more to come is something I am looking forward to.”

Brad Close will this week celebrate his 100th game, with the dynamic and tenacious forward rarely missing a game since his debut.

Geelong Cats Executive General Manager of Football Andrew Mackie said the Club was pleased to see Close extend his stay at GMHBA Stadium.

“Brad has become an integral piece of our team. He is a great teammate and someone who can impact the game in multiple ways,” Mackie said  

“We look forward to seeing him continue to improve and develop over the next three years alongside a core group of players.”

Geelong kicks off its 2025 AFL campaign against Fremantle this Saturday at GMHBA Stadium. First bounce is at 1.20pm, with tickets available through Ticketmaster.
