The Geelong Football Club and Ford Australia hold one of the most iconic and longest running partnerships in sport, ticking over another incredible milestone in 2025 as they reach 100 years of partnership.
To celebrate the century-long partnership, the Geelong Cats have designed and will wear a special guernsey during their Round 4 match against Melbourne at GMHBA Stadium.
The guernsey features the Ford colour blue on the sleeves and nape, a replica of the side stripe on a XY GT 1971 across the front and integration of '100 years of Ford' within the guernsey.
Another special element is that the Cat within the logo will face forward, representing the future of the partnership while also acknowledging how far both organisations have come. This will be a first for the Geelong Cats Players Shield.
The final design feature will be visible on the back of the guernsey, with the player numbers on the back to be imprinted in the Ford blue colour.
With the partnership first signed in 1925, this milestone demonstrates the long-lasting bond between the two organisations and Ford’s ongoing commitment to Geelong, with its Global Research and Development Centre in Norlane, Geelong, the Ford You Yangs Proving Ground, and strong roots embedded across the community.
Things looked a little different when the partnership was first formed: when Geelong won its first VFL premiership in 1925, there were 12 teams in the competition, only 18 players lined up for a team each match and famous names like Edward 'Carji' Greeves were running around in the Hoops.
Although things might have changed on field, one thing has remained constant and that is the mutual support of the two organisations.
