The Coaches’ Votes are in for Round 7, with young Geelong Cats defender Connor O’Sullivan being recognised for his efforts against Carlton on Sunday.
The 19-year-old was the only Cat to feature in the votes this week, recognised for another strong display.
O’Connor, who received the Round 2 Telstra AFL Rising Star nomination earlier this season, stood tall in defence, with 12 of his 17 disposals coming from intercepts, including six intercept marks.
He was also impactful at ground level, with six ground ball gets, and had nine spoils – the most in a single game of his eight-game career to date.
O’Connor and with fellow young defender Lawson Humphries have both stood up in defence this year, particularly in the absence of more experienced defenders Jake Kolodjashnij and Jack Henry through injury.
Humphries finished the game with 21 disposals, six marks, 468 metres gained and an equal career-high 17 pressure acts.
The AFL Coaches Association’s AFL Champion Player Award is an award voted by the 18 coaching panels on a 5,4,3,2,1 basis after each home and away game, acknowledging outstanding effort by an individual player in a season.
Saturday night's match against Collingwood is fully-ticketed event. General Admission Cats members must upgrade their membership to a reserved seat to attend. Alternatively, Cats fans can purchase a ticket via Ticketek.
