Ruckman Zac Smith will play this 50th match in the blue and white hoops against Fremantle at Optus Stadium today.

The first bounce is at 2.35pm local time.

Smith described it as a ‘really proud’ moment.

“To play 50 games for any club, particularly the Cats - I came here four years ago and I have felt like I have had an impact and gotten to know a lot of the players and staff and we have become quite close, so I am really proud,” Smith said.

The 29-year-old has had to remain patient this year playing a starring role in the VFL while waiting for an AFL opportunity to prove his worth.

That opportunity came last week against the Swans and he grabbed it with both hands.

“There is always ups and downs in footy and during the season and that hasn’t changed this year at all.”

“I feel like I have gotten my footy to a pretty consistent level at the moment and I think that is why I am getting rewarded last week against the Swans and then this week as well.”

“I feel like I am playing consistently and playing my role.”

The former Gold Coast Sun has enjoyed spending the week in Fremantle.

“It has been like a mini-camp, we have tried to keep it as routine as possible like it would be back home, but you are just in a different environment.

“It has been really good to train in different places. (On Thursday) a few of us went to Rottnest Island and just spent time together which is really exciting.”

This week Smith faces a big challenge competing against Fremantle ruck duo Aaron Sandilands and Sean Darcy.

“They are both really big boys, so I am just going to need to be really physical and play to my strengths as well, get around the ground and hopefully blow them up a little bit.”
