Only the most optimistic Cats fans could have expected what unfolded at Simonds Stadium on Saturday night.
Given the match against Greater Western Sydney was essentially a play-off for a home qualifying final, it was expected to be a tough, rugged and close contest.
Yet Chris Scott's men put the Giants to the sword.
The Cats showed off their premiership credentials by running out 44-point winners and snaring second place on the ladder.
It was a great night all round, with Andrew Mackie and Tom Lonergan receiving a tremendous ovation when they unexpectedly farewelled the Simonds Stadium faithful.
Mack and Domsy will go down in history as two of Geelong's greatest defenders.
And they will play crucial roles in the finals as the Cats try and send them off with another premiership.
It all begins with a massive qualifying final against Richmond at the MCG on Friday, September 8.

The Cats' win over the Tigers back in round 21 was a beauty, coming as it did without Joel Selwood, Mitch Duncan and Tom Hawkins.
Indeed, that win was voted our best victory of the season in that week's Monday Murmurings.
But has Saturday night's win over the Giants surpassed it?
