Newly re-signed Cats coach Chris Scott is ready to get to work with the crop of young talent that Geelong has introduced to AFL football over the last two seasons.
Scott told Fox Footy’s AFL 360 that the long-term nature of his contract extension reflects the Cats commitment to see through the working rebuild it began in recent years.
"We have been through a period over the last probably seven to eight years, transitioning our list, trying to rebuild a little bit on the run. It's probably a reflection that we still think there's a fair way to go on the journey we're on.
"We have some young players in our team, I think it's 15 debutants over the past [two] years that we have high hopes for,” Scott said.
“I'm really looking forward to working with Tim Kelly for a long time, Esava Ratugolea, Tom Stewart, Lachie Fogarty, Charlie Constable, it's a big group of players who are quite new to our club.
Scott currently holds the highest winning rate in AFL history for a coach with over 100 games, with 69.5% of his games coached ending in victory.
In addition to winning the 2011 premiership, the Cats have reached the finals six times, and enter the final round of the 2018 campaign inside the top eight.
"It still feels pretty fresh for us all, and we're aware there's still a lot of work to be done," Scott said.
“When we look at the possibilities in front of us it’s really exciting. We still think that we’re in contention at the moment so we’re not going to pass up that opportunity easily.
“We’ve always been aware that it’s difficult in this competition, being as equalised as it is [and] handicapped really, to stay up there. We’ve always had an eye towards the future and I think this just reflects that.”
