Fourth-year midfielder Jordan Cunico is focused on becoming a more consistent footballer in 2018.
After having to wait until round four this year to play just his second AFL match, Cunico looks to have finally cemented his spot in the senior team after a string of strong performances.
Speaking to K-rock Football, Cunico said he is feeling more confident with each game played.
“I think I have played five AFL games now, so feeling confident in myself and especially my teammates,” Cunico said.
The 22-year-old admitted last year, that he was ‘coming in and out of games a fair bit’ and he just wanted to be consistent in everything he did all the time.
Since returning against the Saints in round four, Cunico has averaged 18 disposals and kicked two-goals, with his outside run providing plenty of x-factor for the Cats.
“I like to use my speed a fair bit, so trying to get as many metres gained as I can.”
Just trying to break the game open and then trying to kick it long to our forwards down deep. That’s probably been the main message all the other coaches have been trying to get across.”
Cunico credits the transition from VFL level to AFL level to the fact that Geelong has their own VFL team.
“All our VFL players are taught the same system to what the AFL players get taught, so when we do go back to the VFL, they are all really good as well, it is good playing both levels.”
Geelong will travel to the MCG to play Collingwood on Sunday.
