With the Olympics in full swing it is hard not to get swept up in the fanfare. One thing the Cats Media team has enjoyed is the Refugee team getting their chance to compete in the games. So it got us thinking, if the Cats had their own representation in the Olympics who would we send along? Here are our picks:

Hurdles – Rhys Stanley

With his incredible speed (see 2009 AFL Grand Final Sprint) and legs to his armpits, Stanley would be a site to see bounding over the hurdles. Skipper Joel Selwood not happy to be overlooked despite a collection of Bendigo school records.

Judo – Tom Hawkins

The big man’s strength is not to be underestimated as proven on the weekend by his manhandling of Essendon opponents. Good luck to the opponent who tries to get Hawkins off his feet as well.

Rugby 7s – Nakia Cockatoo

Extreme pace, agility and x-factor and plenty of open space would see Cockatoo as an incredible Rugby 7s player. Would love to see the try scoring celebrations too!

Modern Pentathlon – Harry Taylor

In what could be perhaps the game’s most historic event, Taylor would enjoy doing his research on the opponent’s strengths and weaknesses across the five events whilst his flexibility would come to the fore across the disciplines.

Table Tennis – Jackson Thurlow & Scott Selwood

We’d be entering these two in the team’s event and highly rate their chances. The duo have been honing their skills in a Geelong social competition so surely the step up to the Olympics shouldn’t be that hard…

Beach Volleyball – Zac Smith

The big fella has the necessary height, physique, deft handwork and Queensland tan to figure right up in the medal chances.

Golf – Chris Scott

The coach is our pick to head up our chances on the greens. Killer instinct, long driving and calm in the short game, this could be our best medal hope.

Shooting – Jimmy Bartel

When it comes down to accuracy, keeping your cool and handling the heat we wouldn’t want anyone else representing us apart from our newest 300-gamer.

Rhythmic Gymnastics – Corey Enright

This might be a strange pick but Boris’ ability to slow down time, pirouette around an opponent and handball to a teammate behind him whilst they are moving are all interchangeable attributes with this sport.

Flag bearer – Matthew Scarlett

When it comes to flags, Matthew Scarlett knows a thing or three about them. And we think Scarlo leading the way with a giant flag might just intimidate a few of the other nations!
