Geelong’s VFL coach Matthew Knights told Cats TV that last year’s success should have a positive effect on this year’s finals' campaign.

Knight’s said is was the difficult road to victory, that the Cats had to take after losing their first final, which got them through.

“We sort of came under the radar a little bit in last year’s campaign, we finished third in the end but there wasn’t too much between the top four.”

“We lost our first final and we were able to do it the hard way. This year’s a little bit different because we’ve been out on top for a couple of weeks now.

“The expectations are probably a little bit different but in saying that it’s just a great experience for our young guys on the Geelong list, because we would like to think in three or four years time or even next year that they’re playing in an AFL finals’ series.

“The lesson and the tricks they’re learning and the understanding of what a final means is going to hold guys like Horlin-Smith, Schroder and Stringer in great stead for the future.”
