With the start of the AFL Home and Away season well and truely upon us, we focus on which players will be competing for a spot in the squad of 22 for round one.
Charlie Constable (Averaged 21.5 disposals & 3.5 tackles in JLT)
Constable is yet to debut but has enjoyed a solid preseason, after averaging 25 disposals in the VFL through 2018. Constable may have a tough time finding his way to the centre square with Geelong’s long list of elite midfielders.
Tom Atkins (Averaged 15.5 disposals & 4.5 tackles in JLT)
After his VFL call up during the 2018 rookie draft, Atkins has the potential to provide elite defensive pressure. Although he played as a midfielder during his time in the VFL, he will most likely act as a pressure forward if named.
Gryan Miers (Averaged 14.5 disposals in JLT)
Earning high praise from development coach Corey Enright for his strong preseason, Miers is another pressure forward with a chance to debut. Will certainly help defend and apply pressure within forward 50.
Jordan Clark (Averaged 16 disposals & 5.5 marks in JLT)
With Tuohy out for round one, Clark is a likely candidate to replace him as a rebound defender. He showed off his speed in the preseason match against Essendon and will make it hard for the opposition to keep up if selected.
Luke Dahlhaus (Averaged 22 disposals & 5.5 tackles in JLT)
Provided the squad with fresh eyes through the preseason and added some class to the forward line through JLT. A likely starter, ‘Dahl’ will play mostly around forward flank and up the wing.
Gary Rohan (Averaged 9.5 disposals & 2 goals in JLT)
Showed off his goal sense against Essendon on home turf, Rohan will likely play a similar role to Dahlhaus. Keep an eye out for his blazing red hair streaming into the forward 50 against the Pies.
