In 2013, Geelong hosted its first game under lights, and it is a moment that Joel Selwood recalls well.
“It was a big night in Geelong,” Selwood said.
“We thought we turned the lights back on in 2007 when we won the grand final within the town and we did a little bit, but how special it was the turn on the real lights down here at GMHBA Stadium.”
“It was a huge night, there were fireworks and the show was on, and we were just so lucky that everyone came out to enjoy the occasion.”
The $10 million light towers remain a city landmark, allowing for GMHBA Stadium to be used all year by all sports at any time.
