Cats’ Indigenous players, Nakia Cockatoo, Jamaine Jones, Brandan Parfitt, Quinton Narkle and Tim Kelly worked closely with local Aboriginal children to explore and celebrate cultural connection through art, while participating in our Djilang Program.  Djilang is the Wadawurrung word for Geelong.

The finished result is two beautifully crafted murals which will be installed in the Djilang Indigenous Garden at GMHBA Stadium, as well as a Bunjil’s Nest and hand painted footballs.

The artwork will be on display at our annual Djilang match on Saturday night against Carlton on Saturday, 26 May. The Djilang Round will also feature performances from the Parrwang Youth Art Group, the Deadly Dancers and our Djilang Program participants, who will take part in the pre-game Guard of Honour and half-time Auskick and Grid games.

With thanks to Barwon Water, Wadawurrung, Iluka Designs, Wathaurong Kids Club, Stronger Brother Stronger Sister and IKE, the Djilang program allows for our community to learn about shared histories, cultures and achievements by Aboriginal people.
