Travis Varcoe well and truly found his form in yesterday’s scrappy win over the Brisbane Lions at the GABBA.

In tough conditions, Varcoe played a pivotal role in helping his side to a win to celebrate Andrew Mackie’s 200-game milestone.

“It’s a good feeling, he’s probably one of the most team-orientated teammates, so to give back to him on his 200th is pretty special for us and for him,” Varcoe told Cats TV.

During the second and third quarters, Varcoe was able to work his way into the game, attacking the ball at pace through the packs.

“I thought I could really put some of their defenders under the pump with a bit of speed.

“Obviously I like playing in the wet, there’s more opportunity for me.”

With an impressive 16 disposals, 10 tackles and two goals, Varcoe praised the work of ruck duo Dawson Simpson and Hamish McIntosh for making his job easier.

“It’s pretty special to have those two guys dominating some of the ruck and putting it straight down our throats.

“It makes our job a whole lot easier and it’s just good to have a couple of fit ruckmen impacting on the game.”

After a tough couple of years the Varcoe magic has returned, just in time for the Pies next week.
