Injured Cats Billie Smedts and Shane Kersten look set to make a return to football this weekend, with both to be tested prior to selection. Mike Snelling from the nib Medical Room told Cats TV that the two have progressed well.

Kersten had surgery before the beginning of the season to correct a knee problem and has made a smooth recovery, with initial reports not expecting him back until midyear.

“He’ll be training again this week and if he gets through the full week of training, which we fully anticipate, then we should see him make his start to the season, which will be great,” Snelling said.

Smedts has also had a delayed start to the season after injuring his leg against North Melbourne in a preseason practice match.

“Billie’s done well. He’s been out nearly ten weeks, probably one week or two weeks more than we anticipated but he was pretty close last week.

“He was touch and go, but we felt that he just needed a little more conditioning, and he’s obviously got that over the weekend, and then full training this week, and then hopefully a test for the weekend,” Snelling said.
