VFL Cats begin campaign
Geelong's VFL side kicks off its 2014 season with a curtain raiser on Friday afternoon
The match will commence at 3.40pm and act as a curtain raiser to the Geelong Cats Vs North Melbourne AFL practice match.
8 AFL senior & rookie listed players have been named in the 27 man squad, including new recruits Jake Kolodjashnij, Nick Bourke and James Toohey.
It will also be the first appearance in the blue and white hoops for VFL listed recruits Luke Bath, James Linton, Kane Leersen, Fraser
Fort, Jay Lever, Jordan Duncan and Chris Lynch, all of whom will be looking to stake a claim for Round 1 selection.
The VFL Cats have also selected 2 players from outside their VFL list of 21. VFL development squad member Tom Atkins (St Joseph’s) and Modewarre midfielder Josh Finch have been brought into the squad to provide additional midfield coverage. Finch, a 3-time winner of the Bellarine Football League Les Ash Medal, has trained with the VFL Cats throughout the pre-season.
Remarkably only 7 players that played in the 2013 VFL Grand Final side - Josh Walker, Jed Bews, Jackson Sheringham, Joel Hamling, Brad Hartman, Matthew Sully and Dominic Gleeson, have been named in the squad.
The North Ballarat Roosters have named a squad that includes North Melbourne listed players Liam Anthony, Ben Jacobs and Cameron Delaney.
Gates open at 3.30pm with entry FREE up until 4.00pm.
