Despite the Cats devastating loss on Saturday night, Cam Guthrie believes the Cats have the capacity to strengthen their forces as the competition progresses, especially with Allen Christensen and Josh Caddy back in the middle.

Christensen gathered 21 touches, four marks and five inside-50s, while Caddy started in the green vest and made 12 disposals once he was let loose.

Guthrie says he’s excited to see what the two Cats can bring with a few more games under their belt.

“It was great seeing them back out there… they’ll just keep getting better going forward and they can definitely add something to our team,” Guthrie told Cats TV

“So we’re pretty excited to have them back and we’re looking forward to some good performances from them for the rest of the year.”

Another stand out for Guthrie was the club’s long awaited debutant Shane Kersten. The youngster never looked out of place with a brilliant show of three goals, seven marks and four tackles.

“I thought Kersten was good tonight, I think the great thing about Kersten is when he marks the ball inside-50 he pretty much always converts, so if we can get the ball in his hands and start kicking goals that will be great for our team,” Guthrie said.

Before Friday night, Guthrie says the Cats will have to lift their clearance numbers and strengthen their pressure in the contest.

Yet Guthrie, who took 21 touches, five tackles and five clearances against the Suns, is confident the Cats have the ability to get back to playing their best brand of footy in time for their meeting against the Bombers at Etihad Stadium for Round 15.

“Winning the ball out of the middle, I’m not sure about clearance numbers (tonight) or anything like that but they always go along way with us to winning a game of footy, so I think we’ll look at that pretty closely during the week and really just being strong in the contest – I think that’s what Scotty will drive home this week,” Guthrie explained.

“We’ll be playing out best footy, because that’s who we are.”

Friday night’s battle will kick off at 7:50pm.
