Cats veteran, Paul Chapman, was finally let loose to take on the Scorpions in the VFL on Sunday, where the Cats flared up in the second half to win by 66-points.

Chapman has endured a tough 15-weeks watching the Cats from the sideline, after starting the first four rounds in full-flight before being struck with a problematic hamstring.

Chapman, whose contract expires at the end of the year, admits that it has been a frustrating time, especially as his future at the club remains unknown.

The 13-year player has confidence in his physical condition, although it will be up to the club to decide whether it’s good enough to resign him for next year.

''That's up to them [the club] again,'' Chapman told Fairfax media.

''The injuries have been disappointing but it's been a little bit out of my control. I have full faith in my body, so I'll definitely want to go around again, but it's something we'll talk about at the end of the year.

''I've got confidence in my body, it's just about getting fit enough to keep going from contest to contest in the AFL. They'll pick me when they know that I'm right.''

Chapman, who picked up 17 disposals, 8 tackles and one boundary goal during the Cats defeat against Casey on Sunday, feels as though he can make it back in time to join the Cats for this year’s AFL finals.

''I think it's been about 15 or 16 weeks [that I have missed]. It's been frustrating but hopefully this is the start of me getting fit and hopefully getting back into the ones and playing finals footy.''

A lot of Chapman’s frustration comes from having such a positive pre-season and first four games, before it all came to a halt after the Cats 21-point win over Sydney Swans in Round four this year.

''It's … frustrating because of all of the hard work I did during the pre-season. I was fit and I was flying and I started off the season really well,'' Chapman said.

Geelong’s VFL senior coach, Matthew Knights, was thrilled with Chapman’s game against Casey.

''The most promising thing was after such a long lay-off, it was an impressive performance from a form point of view and an impressive performance from a body perspective,'' Matthew Knights said.

“His inside work was good, his outside running and spread got better as the game went on and his disposal was excellent as Chappy's disposal always are”, Knights said.

Knights also couldn’t say whether Chappy would be re-selected for the Cats senior side this year.

''We don't know when the senior selection is going to come into it for him, but it's a good start.''

Another senior Cat who made it back on the field with 16 possessions and one goal was young Allen Christensen, who should return to the senior list this week or next.

Knight’s was also very complimentary about Jesse Stringer who raked in 18 touches and one goal during Sunday’s win.

''I thought Stringer's impetus around the clinches in the second quarter was outstanding and he probably got us going a little bit,'' Knights said.
