Ruckman, Nathan Vardy, is feeling good on the track and is hoping to return before the season starts to get too serious.

Having missed the NAB Cup and the majority of last season due to a hip injury, Vardy is looking forward to completing a full day of training next week.

“I started training with the main group yesterday so it’s just about building it up now,” Vardy said.

“There will be a main session tomorrow and I’ll probably do a fair bit of that, and next week I’ll do full training and then hopefully play in the VFL...”

Vardy has found it hugely difficult being restricted to the bench and is eager to start playing some real footy.

“It’s been a drag, obviously I hurt myself about 2 weeks before the NAB Cup,” Vardy said.

“I was just excited to play footy as I only got a few games in last year, and I just want to string some games together and play some footy.”

“To get hurt that close to games after doing a fair chunk of the preseason is very frustrating.

“In saying that, I want to be there when we start the business end of the season, so if I have to miss a few games at the start of the year, then so be it.”

Despite suffering from a groin injury in the lead up to NAB Cup, Vardy confirms that unfortunately it is due to his recent hip injury.

However, with the support of the club he is determined to find a sustainable balance when it comes to training and playing football, which will enable him to pursue a long and exciting career.

“Yeah it was a groin problem, but in saying that, it was on the left side so it is hip related, but I’m not saying my hips are done but it is related,” Vardy explained.

“With the extent of the injury that I had I’ve got to deal with that.”

“There are going to be times during my career that my hip will just say, hey I need to have a rest for a little bit.

“With me, the medical guys and the coaches, we just have to find that balance in how much work I do, so at the end of the day I’m able to play the best footy I can for that two hours on the weekend.”
