Young Cat took on the heat
Young Cameron Guthrie stood up on Friday night during the Cats devastating loss against the Roos
Cameron Guthrie caught up with Cats TV following the side’s 10-point loss to North Melbourne on Friday night.
In a frustrating night, the Cats found it difficult to get anything going but Guthrie performed strongly with 16 touches, four tackles and four rebound 50s.
“They had a really good first half I guess and we were playing catch up footy from the second half.
“Although things started coming together a little bit in that third quarter for us but it was probably just too much (of a deficit).”
In a night where the Cats couldn’t get going, the Kangaroos proved their worth.
“They are a good football side, especially at Etihad Stadium so we knew it was going to be a tough game.
“They came out and played really well in the first half and we just struggled to get back from there.”
With North Melbourne’s Todd Goldstein racking up 42 hit outs, he dominated the ruck contest and made the absence of big Cat Dawson Simpson all the more obvious.
“We did miss Dawse; it’s very frustrating that he can’t be out there.
“Westy was pretty fresh back in, it might have been his first game back in for a while and Vards hasn’t played heaps of footy. I’m sure going forward they will improve.”
Despite the disappointing loss, the Cats still took some positives away from the game.
Taylor Hunt’s shut down of Brent Harvey after half time was outstanding, keeping him to only 13 possessions in the second half after a blistering 24 in the first.
“Taylor is a very reliable player, all the boys really like what he does for the team.
“I think he started on Wells and then went to Harvey in the second half and he did a good job.”
Guthrie hopes next week’s challenge against the in-form Port Adelaide at Simonds Stadium will get the Cats a win and cement their top four spot as September creeps closer.
