Taking the track like nothing ever happened, Travis Varcoe has made an empowering entrance back into the team.

After missing the majority of last season with a foot injury, Varcoe, continued to focus on his recovery and didn’t let his injury get in the way of his promising career at the Cats.

‘’That's the way footy goes. You've got two options: you can put your head in the sand and cry about it or just realise that's the hand you've been dealt and get on with it," Varcoe told News Limited.

"It was just a frustrating year. I'd get to 80 per cent and have a setback, 80 per cent and have a setback, 80 per cent and a setback.

"It was really mentally challenging, but it's the nature of our sport. Everyone goes through it at some stage, and for me it just happened to be 2012."

Varcoe admitted that his inspiration to keep fighting came from the Cat’s younger side, Daniel Menzel and Josh Cowan, who demonstrated great character and drive, despite suffering from injury that would keep them out for longer.

‘’I had Menzel and young Josh Cowan ... they had setbacks probably more often than I did, but they rocked up every day and said, 'Right, what have you got for me?'," Varcoe said.

"They put their heads down and worked hard and that was what actually got me through. They weren't complaining, so why should I?"
