In Chris Scott’s post-match address, he described last night’s victory against Brisbane as a ‘win full of merit’.

Down two rotations after Mitch Duncan and Quinton Narkle were ruled out for the game at quarter time, the Cats found a way to steady the ship late in the second quarter just when the game was slipping from their grasp.

Geelong’s leaders took charge with Patrick Dangerfield and Gary Ablett Jnr involved in the build up to Sam Menegola and Tom Hawkins goals, which cut the deficit to 10-points at half time.

The Cats came out firing in the third term, piling on seven goals to nil in the quarter to setup a memorable 27-point win and move up to second on the ladder.

Speaking to K Rock Football post-game, Brandan Parfitt said the group always had the belief that they could win the game when down by 22-points in the second quarter.

“Obviously, we have a great skipper in Joel (Selwood) who leads from the front, but I think majority of us know that when we are behind, we can catchup and really give it a red-hot crack no matter what the scoreboard says,” Parfitt said.

After a high-pressure and low scoring first half, the Cats were able to open up the game in the third term by moving the ball forward at every chance.

They were also able to capitalise on their chances when they had the momentum.

It started in the middle with the Cats winning nine of the first 10 clearances in the quarter.

“It was a good win in the end."

“That third quarter really got us going, our mids were pretty good and we got it going forward, ended up kicking a few goals and getting on the front foot.”

“I thought the conditions probably helped them a little but when we were chipping it around, but when we were able to move forward, we were able to equalise the numbers and kick goals when we had the momentum.”

The victory was sweetened for Parfitt seeing good friend Sam Simpson produce a breakout performance.

“He has been the unlucky one missing out most weeks, but he has been chipping away in the VFL the last few years.”

“I have always rated him. He is one of my good mates at the club, so I am just so happy for him and he was awesome tonight.”

Geelong will host Collingwood at Optus Stadium on Thursday.
