Despite missing a glut of AFL listed players, Geelong has recorded an emphatic victory over Frankston by 70 points.

Trent West and Dawson Simpson had a field day in the ruck collecting 74 hit outs between them to Frankston’s nine in the 21.13.139 to 10.9.69 victory.

“It certainly gave us first use early and gave Simon Hogan, Kane Tenace guys like that an arm chair ride.” Coach Dale Amos said after the game.

Another pleasing sign for Geelong was their first quarter where they jumped out to a five goal lead at quarter time. Hogan collected 15 touches for the quarter and was well supported by James Podsiadly, Jon Simpkin and Paul Carson who had nine touches each for the quarter.

The second quarter went along the same lines as the first with the Cats kicking six goals to one to lead by 62 points at the main break. Hogan collected 12 touches for the quarter to end the half with 27 whilst Podisadly collected another nine for the quarter. Geelong dominated the inside 50’s 15 to nine but it was in the tackle count where they really dominated collecting 30 tackles to 10 for the quarter.

“We really hunted the ball, we played well, we knew they would try and match us in that area. They are a physical side, it was nice to play that way against a physical side.” Amos said about his side’s pressure in the win.

Frankston gained some ground in the third quarter kicking four goals to Geelong’s three to be trailing the Cats by 54 points. Hogan collected nine disposals whilst Matt Firman and Adam Donohue provided plenty of run from defence collecting seven disposals each for the quarter.

The Cats were told at three quarter time to look for the first option and they did that well kicking five goals to three for the quarter to run out comfortable 70 point victors and try to keep in finals contention. Hogan collected 10 touches for the quarter to bring his overall tally for the fame to 46 whilst Carson, Donohue, Simpkin, Tenace, Bryn Weadon, West and Casey Tutangi all found plenty of the ball in the final quarter.

“It was a pretty consistent performance by the guys, we started well and were able to maintain it for most of the day and sort of keep the game in control. It was pleasing that we could finish the game off as strong as we did, I thought our last quarter was very good.” Amos said about the game.

Geelong had nine different goal scorers with Podisadly dominating all over the ground to finish the game with seven goals three behinds and collect 29 touches in the process. He was well supported by Jarrod Westwood who kicked four goals and Simpkin who kicked three goals and collect 25 touches.

“Compared to last week the ball was coming into the forward 50 more cleaner which made it easier to get in the right spot and our forwards capitalised on that. I was lucky I found the ball and managed to kick the goals.” Westwood speaking after the game.
