Where are the votes going?
James Kelly joined Cats TV on Argue the Toss to discuss which Cats have displayed a Best and Fairest performance so far?
Cats TV met with midfielder, James Kelly, and Herald Sun journalist, Scott Gullan, to discuss this year’s possible best and fairest candidates on Argue the Toss?
Kelly didn’t hesitate with this question one bit.
“I think Mathew Stokes would be winning the Best and Fairest so far, he’s had an outstanding first 10 or 11 games this season, should be and will be I’d say.”
Gullan agrees with Kelly and believes Stokes will be high on the vote count along with Harry Taylor and Steven Motlop. He can also see Mark Blicavs doing really well, considering his impressive performance as a first year player.
“I think Harry Taylor would be right up there and even Motlop will be getting more votes than he’s ever had. I think Stokesy would probably have his nose in front and even someone like Blicavs. He’ll have votes because the coach loves what he’s doing,” Gullan explained.
Kelly says the number of potential Best and Fairest nominees reiterates the club’s diversity and success. It is the high expectations amongst the playing group that drive the players to push their own play to the next level.
“It’s always a bit different and I think that has always been a bit of a secret to our success, our sustainability over the last few years is that no one is really happy with the year before or no one is really happy with their spot in the side, and Stokesy is no better example of that,” Kelly said.
