Quinton Narkle was a happy man following the Geelong's 34-point win against the Gold Coast Suns at GMHBA Stadium on Saturday.

The victory made it three-in-a-row for the Cats and helped further cement their spot inside the top four after 10 rounds.

“It was a tough one and we had to grind it out, but the boys played really well, and it was good to get the win,” Narkle told K rock Football post-game.

“It was just good to hit the scoreboard and I thought everyone played really well today.”

Narkle recorded a career-high 34 disposals (15 contested), six score involvements and five clearances to be named in Geelong’s best players.

After being starved of opportunities in a highly competitive Geelong outfit in recent times, Narkle is hopeful this can be the start of cementing his place in the senior team moving forward.

“I hope so,” he said.

“I haven’t had a lot of opportunities so far, but I am pretty happy with my game and hopefully I can be a bit more consistent going forward.”

“As everyone knows Geelong has quite a good squad and it’s pretty hard to not overthink things when you get an opportunity but going into this game, I just wanted to clear my head and play the best footy I could, and I think I did that today.”

When Mitch Duncan was subbed out with concussion at half time and Cam Guthrie spent a large chunk of the third quarter on the bench after leaving the field just after half time holding his shoulder, Narkle really stood up with 23 of his disposals coming in the second half.

“Nothing really changes. We just try to be aggressive and just try to beat them in the contest. It’s not ideal with the two of them going down but I thought Joel (Selwood) and Brandan Parfitt did really well and we kept that up which was good.”

Narkle was particularly dominate around the stoppages, weaving his way through traffic to find teammates on the outside.

“That has been a focus area over the last few weeks. Just trying to explode from contests and read the ball really well and trying to get it forward,” he said.

The 23-year-old still sees a lot of improvement in his game and he has been working hard at improving his fitness.

“I am just trying to do everything I can to get into the best possible shape, training harder with a bit more intensity and I think that’s going to really help going forward and getting games.”

Geelong's next challenge will be against Collingwood at the MCG in Round 11 on Saturday 29 May at 1.45pm.
