Brothers in arms: Cam and Zach after the win over North Melbourne.

It was a family affair as Cam and Zach Guthrie have shared best-on-ground honours against the Kangaroos in the eyes of the coaches.

The brothers amassed a combined 57 disposals in a breakout game for Zach, with the young Cat reaping the rewards of sustained effort and consistent performances for the club's Bendigo Bank VFL outfit.

Zach Guthrie finished with career-highs for disposals (28), kicks (24), uncontested possessions (20), intercept possessions (11), intercept marks (six) and inside 50s (five).

It was the eighth time the younger Guthrie took the field for the senior side this season, just one game shy of the nine matches he played in his debut season in 2017.

The visibly matured Cat gave selectors plenty to think about heading into a matchup with GWS.

“We had a few guys go out, Axe (Tom Atkins) and Mark (O’Connor) who were going to play that position,” Zach says.

“It was just a little bit of next man up I think. For me and Kreugs getting the call up a bit late, it was just about being ready for the opportunity.

“I was just keen to grab the opportunity, they’ve been a bit hard to come by so I’m just making the most of it when I can.”

For his own part, Cam Guthrie continued his own stellar form, grabbing 29 disposals and kicking two goals in just 62 per cent of game time.
