Recruiting and List Manager Stephen Wells.

After hours upon hours spent reviewing game footage, combine results and interviewing draft prospects, the 2021 NAB AFL Draft has nearly arrived with less than 24 hours until the first name is read out on Wednesday night.

Geelong is armed with five selections in the NAB AFL Draft which will be held across Wednesday and Thursday night from 6.30pm AEST each night. The NAB AFL Rookie Draft will then follow on Friday afternoon.

The Cats currently don’t hold a first round selection in the NAB AFL Draft but are in a strong position come the second night of the draft with picks 22, 30, 32, 34 and 51.

“We’ll have all day Thursday to review our strategies and the players that are likely to be available for us, and whether there’ll be a change to any of our selections or not because of trading,” recruiting and list manager Stephen Wells told K rock Football.

“All the scenarios will have been well and truly worked through by the time it comes around to having our pick, and we’ll be doing a bit of a mix and match amongst the type of players that we choose.”

Geelong is also set to select two players in the rookie draft after welcoming Tyson Stengle, Oisin Mullun and Jonathan Ceglar already.

“We’ve already brought in Tyson Stengle as a small forward, and Oisin Mullun from Ireland is going to join us,” he said.

“Already having two smaller, running players is something we’ve been able to tick off.

“But, there will be a mix, I reckon. We just need to keep trying to improve our young talent.”
