Cats deliver
Tom Hawkins was impressed with the Cats accurate deliveries inside 50 during Saturday's clash against Port
Cats TV spoke to key forward, Tom Hawkins, after Saturday’s 48-point win against Port Adelaide, where he matched a career best of six goals out of the Cats 18.
The Cats accurate delivery inside 50 kept the goals flooding in from the opening to the closing siren, with Geelong kicking seven goals to zero in the first quarter.
Over the past few weeks the Cats have been working hard on perfecting their forward deliveries and this week their training efforts paid off.
Hawkins said the team was happy with their delivery performance and he hopes the supply can remain high for the rest of the year.
“We’ve been doing a lot of work on kicking the ball inside forward 50, it’s great when it comes off and I’m on the end of it along with the other four,” Hawkins told Cats TV.
“We’re really happy with the delivery today and hopefully that can continue for the next few weeks, months and right through the year.”
It’s now less than a week until the Cats have their first game at Simonds Stadium for the season, although that is not the main reason why Hawkins is excited for playing this Weekend. It is because this Saturday the Cats will host their first ever night game in front of their home crowd in Geelong.
Hawkins can’t wait for the event to unfold under the lights and believes it’s going to be a huge night for the whole city of Geelong and its surrounding region, as well as the footy club.
“We’re really exciting about it. I urge you (Geelong supporters) all to try and get along to the game, I know there are limited seats available but it’s going to be sensational for the footy club, and mainly for the greater city of Geelong it’s going to be super, everyone’s excited,” Hawkins said.
“I’m on tweeter and I constantly see photos of the lights, so there’s plenty of hype around it at the moment.”
This Saturday night is not only going to be Geelong’s first night game, it will also be Gary Ablett’s first game back at Simonds Stadium since he left for Gold Coast at the end of 2010.
Hawkins is highly impressed with the way Gold Coast Suns are playing and he's ready to embark on an exciting yet challenging contest.
“Gold Coast is a good side and they have been playing good footy, so we are going to have to be at our best but we are super excited for the game,” Hawkins said.
