Cats TV was joined by senior coach, Chris Scott, for this week’s episode of Tweet the Coach.

Scott spoke about Mark Blicavs’ astonishing introduction to AFL, as well as the time allocated on observing the opposition before game day.

According to Scott, Mark Blicavs, started to show his progression on the track during this year’s NAB Cup. However, Scott and the club still remain nonplussed about Blicavs’ AFL journey so far, considering this time last year he was focusing on his Olympic dream.

“He started to look AFL ready through the AFL preseason but for a player that hadn’t played any competitive football since under 13s/14s, it is still a remarkable story,” Scott admitted.

“None of us could have foreseen the improvement Mark has made.

“We still think he’s got some improvement left in him, which is a really good sign because he’s playing really good competitive AFL football at the moment.”

In the week before game day, Scott will concentrate solely on his own players and their game strategies. Overall, he spends little time analyzing the strengths of their competitors.

“I certainly spend a lot more time on our game than I do the opposition, but having said that we’ve got a big coaching staff.”

“I think the particular opposition coach would spend up to a month looking at the opposition before we play them.

“I tend to look at least at a couple of their games in its entirety before we play them so I can get a handle on them, but again the focus for me primarily is on our players and the way we want to play.”
