We know it’s a team sport, but sometimes it’s nice to pay recognition to those individuals who have excelled.
In our three years in the competition, we have had four players recognised at the AFLW Awards.
To start with we can’t go past our current captain Meghan McDonald, who has been named in the All Australian team twice in three years.
Both times McDonald has been nominated at full back, the first in 2019 and the second this year in 2021.
The club has had three Rising Star nominees over the three seasons; Nina Morrison, Olivia Purcell and Becky Webster.
Morrison’s nomination came in the club’s first ever game in Round 1, 2019, when the number one draft pick collected 22 disposals and kicked the match-winning point.
Purcell was recognised later that season in Round 5 when she laid a game-high 10 tackles in the team’s 27-point win over Brisbane. She took her game to the next level in 2020, and was named in the All-Australian team.
Our most recent nomination was Webster for her performance against St Kilda in Round 4. The speedy-midfielder had 373 metres gained, 24 disposals and eight marks.
We look forward to adding more to this list this season.
