The eyes of the football world will be on the MCG on Saturday night for the AFL Round 8 blockbuster between Geelong and Collingwood – but it is not the only ‘blockbuster’ between the two clubs taking place on Saturday. The top of the ladder VFL Cats are heading to the traditional home of the Pies – Victoria Park - to take on the 8th placed Collingwood VFL side.

As has been the case most weeks this year – the Cats have been very active at the selection table.

Two weeks after a forward line of Nathan Vardy (6 goals), George Burbury (6 goals) and Shane Kersten (4 goals) took the VFL competition by storm; the Cats have added further fire power to their forward half with the inclusions of Josh Walker (shoulder) and 2013 leading goal kicker Joel Hamling (general soreness) into this week’s side.

Premiership captain Troy Selwood (ankle), VFL listed midfielder Mark Corrigan (achilles) and Jordan Murdoch are amongst the other key inclusions for the big match.

Former Collingwood VFL player Robert Condy has been named in the 27 man squad and is a chance to face his former club, while fellow VFL listed players Daniel Gibbs, Jai Sheahan and Tom Maas have also been included in the line up.

Josh Hunt (AFL), Jackson Thurlow (AFL), Jordan Schroder (AFL), Jesse Stringer (hamstring), and VFL veteran Jack Hollmer (elbow) are the ‘outs’ from the side that defeated the highly rated Werribee Tigers by 55 points two weeks ago.

The 8th placed Collingwood second tier side have named a strong line up that includes a number of household names such as Alan Didak, Ben Johnson and ruckman Ben Hudson.

They have been selected alongside a group of talented young players such as Ben Sinclair, Jackson Paine, AFL omission Caolan Mooney and highly rated first year players Kyle Martin and Tim Broomhead.

The match kicks off at 1.00pm with free entry for all supporters.
