CATS speedster and rising talent Max Holmes will spend a period of time on the sidelines after suffering a syndesmosis ankle injury against Fremantle.
Holmes was substituted out of the match early in the clash and was helped off the field by trainers.
"Max Holmes has unfortunately suffered a syndesmosis injury against Freo. He’ll have surgery on that which will rule him out for the short-to-medium term," head of medical and conditioning services Harry Taylor says.
"Max has completed a large body of work and we expect him to begin his rehab program before resuming and having an influence in our AFL team.
"He’s having surgery this afternoon and will begin his rehabilitation program from there."
Veteran forward Gary Rohan made a successful return to football following pre-season back and hip sciatica.
The Cats are ramping up his football exposure following his limited pre-season conditioning.
"Gary played managed game time in the VFL against Williamstown on the weekend and we were happy with his performance," Taylor says.
"He’ll continue to progress with his reconditioning program."
Category B Rookie ruckman Paul Tsapatolis has also gone under the knife after battling through ankle soreness.
"Paul had a niggling ankle problem which after review, it was decided that he’d have surgery."
"We expect Paul to follow his rehab and reconditioning program and be back in a relatively short period of time."
Patrick Dangerfield (cork) will push his case for selection on the training track this week after missing successive matchups.
"Pat has completed several solid conditioning sessions and his availability will be assessed later in the week," Taylor says.
Rhys Stanley (ankle) and Sam Menegola (knee soreness) are both also tests.
"Rhys injured his ankle late in the game against Fremantle," Taylor says.
"He’s commenced reconditioning exercises and will be tested late in the week.
"Sam is tracking well with big blocks of running completed. He’s in a great frame of mind and will be a test later this week to see if he’s available."
Jack Henry remains a day-to-day prospect for the club's medical staff.
"Jack Henry continues to be evaluated day-by-day as the club monitors how his injured foot feels to determine his training loads," Taylor says.
"We are seeing general improvement in Jack’s function."
First-year Cat Flynn Kroger is nearing a debut for the club as he continues to train strongly after working his way back from a hip injury.
“Flynn is progressing to full training with the intent to get some game time in the near future,” Taylor says.
Toby Conway (hip), James Willis (knee) and Sam Simpson (concussion) are continuing to work through their reconditioning plans.
